WorkShop and Art Gallery
The Workshop Art & Craft Gallery opened in 2009 in the historic village of Bathurst in the Eastern Cape and now showcases over 100 talented exhibitors.
In 2009 Mark & Margie purchased and renovated a 1948 double-storey building on the main road in Bathurst. It was originally built as a workshop and fuel filling station and they renamed it The Workshop Art & Craft Gallery. They started with only Mark’s ‘Benchmark’ garden and patio furniture. Unusual – inspired – provocative – indigenous – handcrafted – unique – recycled – antique – organic – at Bathurst’s First Stop – The Workshop.
Just Off Centre Studio and Gallery
Sandra Thomas lives and works in the village of Bathurst in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She has painted since the age of seven and studied under renowned artist Jack Lugg who in turn trained with Walter Battiss, one of the leading artists of the twenty-first century. Sandra graduated B. Tech. Cum Laude in Fine Art in 2005.
Richard Pullen and Two Sages
Richard is passionate about the materials he uses and makes most of his own clay from raw kaolin deposits 55km away from his studio. Birds are a favourite theme in Richard’s work, “inspired by a rural childhood in the Eastern Cape” and he describes his small plates as “little moments of nature captured in time”.
The Corner Gallery
Tori Stowe is a freelance artist / illustrator / surface designer. She works from her studio gallery in the little rural village of Bathurst, designing fabric, ceramics, illustrating books, sketching commissions, doing freelance artwork for Woolworths South Africa and other homeware distributors around the world. Handmade goods made by local people – a showcase for Eastern Cape talent.
